Olympic Speed Skating Oval May Get New Fence

The Lake Placid School Board is moving forward on a project which could give the Olympic Oval a brand new look from the outside.. In October last year, Connie Devlin Cross gave a presentation to the School Board proposing to replace the Fencing.. She proposed having the community raise money for a new fence around the Olympic Oval, a Black Iron style fence which meets all of the needs of everyone who uses the facility, but also that looks much better than a smiple chain link fence. Connie Graduated from Lake Placid High School in 1950, she’s also on the Schools Alumni Board.. She told the Lake Placid Central School Board that the fencing around the school looks more like prison fencing and the beautification committee decided to take up the cause to help replace the fence with something that would look much nicer… The new fence, she says would be paid for by donations from organizations who could help to purchase a particular section, or in the case of Iron Man for example, the gates.

The Black Iron Fencing would replace the chain link fence which currently surrounds the Olympic Oval and it appears the project is now moving forward as the School Board has agreed that while there are still a few questions to be answered, they would like to see Connie continue the effort.. Mary Dietrich is The School Board’s President.. She introduced the concept to the board at their most recent meeting and And after looking at a few of those suggestions, the board settled on recommending a stronger commercial grade version of a black Iron fence.. Their recommendation pending approval of the code enforcement officer, their attorney and more communication with ORDA who is responsible for the Oval when school is not in session..
