Plattsburgh Announces Changes to Fourth of July Parade Route

The Fourth of July may still be four weeks away but the City of Plattsburgh wants to be sure everyone who plans on attending their independence day celebration knows that the parade route is changing..  “The head of the new route will start out by the train station with staging on Jay Street and along Dock Street and the parade route will come up along Bridge Street and then to City Hall Place and then on to Cumberland Avenue and then down to wilcox dock where is used to begin in years past.” Mayor Jim Calnon Commented, he was pointing at a map created for the purpose of visualizing the newly designed parade route. “The parade will have a new coordinator this year as well,” Calnonn added. Tim McCormick is the President of First Weekends..  His Group will take charge of the Parade Planning.. One of the members of the committee, Chris Rosenquest says “just this last year they’ve seen a lot of growth in first weekends, specifically around their committee and their volunteer base.. as well as the participants during First Weekends.”.

The parade begins at 2pm and this year will start at Bridge Street and run down City Hall Place to Cumberland Avenue.. but it’s not the only event during the Independence Day Celebration..  The Mayor’s Voice.. A music competition takes place after the parade along with a concert at the monument followed by fireworks which Mayor Calnon Says will have a local flare this year..
