Two candidates are vying for the nod from republicans in the primary on June 24th and they faced off in Watertown Thursday night in a debate that was broadcast on Mountain Lake PBS in Plattsburgh and on public stations across the northern rim.. Stefanik was on message, making sure that everyone knows she grew up in her family’s small business. Matt Doheny has run for the seat previously in the 21st district.. Doheny mad similar points when it came to his hometown. Both Candidates are opposed to The Affordable Care Act.. Both candidates were opposed to the government bailouts of the Automotive industry during the economic downturn.. On the question of shipping Crude Oil by Rail through the 21st, district.. Stefanik related the issue to the southern part of the district saying there are risks that need attention.
The Debate among two conservatives for the republican nod in the primary, Elise Stefanik and Matt Doheny, not terribly revealing and most likely won’t change very many minds.. Doheny, pointing at the rest of the district from his hometown as though it was somehow “Over There” and Stefanik, taking a very businesslike approach to the questions.. according to her staffers, she has received the republican party’s endorsement in 11 of the 12 counties in the district and the conservative party line..
