New Fire Hoses for Chazy Fire Dept.

PLATTSBURGH, Monday, July 14th, 2014 – U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announce $17,078 in federal funding for the Chazy Volunteer Fire Department in Clinton County. The funding was allocated through the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG). The federal funding will be used to purchase new fire hoses.

“Making sure the brave men and women that serve in our fire departments have the resources they need has always been a top priority of mine,” said Senator Schumer. “Updating this crucial equipment will help and allow our local heroes to continue their important, life-saving work.”

“The first responders at the Chazy Volunteer Fire Department put their lives on the line every day and that is why it is important to make sure they have access to critical equipment,” said Senator Gillibrand. “This investment will help ensure the safety of the community, helping the Department save more lives.

“We are very pleased with the grant award,” said Michael Cahoon, Fire Chief, Chazy Volunteer Fire Department. “The money will be used to replace older 4 inch hose with brand new 5 inch line for both of our pumpers. This upgrade will help to increase water flow rates at fire scenes.”

Chazy Volunteer Fire Department will use this federal funding to purchase new fire hoses. This federal funding will help the Department enhance firefighting capabilities in Clinton County and surrounding communities through the Clinton County Mutual Aid System.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grants are administered by the Department of Homeland Security Federal Emergency Management Agency in cooperation with the Department’s United States Fire Administration. The grants are awarded on a competitive basis to the applicants that most closely address the program’s priorities and demonstrate financial need.
