A New Look for Special Education in Lake Placid

Enzo Villani was sworn in on Tuesday evening and takes his seat at the table with the two other new members of the board.. Patricia Stanton and Cammy Sheridan.. and beyond the new seats on the board itself, the Committee on Special Education has a new chairwoman.. Her name is Sarah Allen. She gave a presentation on behalf of the Committee on Special Education.. and one important item she highlighted is the importance of helping students to become self sufficient whether making use of physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy.  “Helping students to achieve their independence from the committee is important and while it’s not possible in some cases, we do work with others to help them become more integrated into the school system without as much of our help if possible.”

Following the presentation, School Board member Cammy Sheridan was very complimentary of the Committee on Special Education and that sentiment was confirmed by School Board President Mary Dietrich and seemed to be the consensus of the rest of the school board..  “Our DIstrict values each child,” Allen added, “and we want to do what’s best for each child, and that means that each child receives different services and different amounts of services but we look at them as the whole child. not as just a student, they’re here to grow, socially, emotionally and academically.”
