AUDIO – 070214 – Saranac Lake Central School Board Lays Out Timetable for Appointing a Board Member

Kelly Morgan-DupreyWe learned on Tuesday that the school board really has two choices.. to hold another election or to appoint someone to fill the one year term… and following committee appointments the board took up the issue of how to move forward..

Shir Filler suggested that it would be important to keep the process as open as possible, and that the board develop some sort of criteria for making an appointment so that the public doesn’t see the decision as somehow underhanded or politically motivated but rather the best person for the job is chosen.. Clyde added during the discussion that during the appointment process, both previous Board Members, Terry Tubrity and Lisa Paschke would be able to participate if they were interested in being considered for another one year term on the board.. In the end, the board voted to move forward with an appointment rather than holding another election and then proceeded to develop a timetable that would allow residents to express their interest and to allow the board to appoint someone within the required 90 day window from July 1st..

Letters of Interest can be submitted to Christine Fransen in the Administrative Offices at the High School and those letters will be held until the board’s next meeting. Superintendent Diane Fox says the board will be developing a simple set of criteria to help with the decision and is also working to include the public in the process.
