Rouses Point Mayor John J. LaBonte has resigned, citing health concerns. Village trustees accepted his resignation after LaBonte, who was re-elected in March, said discussions with his doctor and family led to the decision. Deputy Mayor Dale Menard is expected to be sworn in as mayor at the board’s June 15th meeting.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has temporarily closed the Butterfield Lake Boat Launch in Jefferson County for a major rehabilitation project. The closure began on Monday, and is expected to continue through early fall.
