Ongoing Events in February
 

The Adirondack Center for Writing will be accepting applications for the Adirondack Literary Awards until March 8. Those wishing to submit a book should send two copies to Director Nathalie Thill at Paul Smiths College. The package should also include a brief cover letter including the author’s contact information and description of the books “qualifications.” It should also state which genre the book should be judged in.

 
Tupper Lake

The Wild Center will be open from 10am to 5pm during Presidents Week. This is five more days to take advantage of See and Ski. Everyday through March 7 people who purchase either a ticket to The Wild Center or a day pass to ski at Big Tupper will get a pass to the other venue for free. The tickets can be redeemed for up to two weeks from when they are issued.

 
Essex County/Southern Franklin County

Applications are now available for the Arts Council for the Northern Adirondacks Twenty-Third Annual Traveling Art Shows and competition for the Cover Art of the 2010-2011 Northern Adirondack Arts Directory. The Cover Art Show will be held at The Lake Placid Center for the Arts with an Opening Reception of Friday, March 12. Deadline for entries is Friday, March 5. Work can be dropped off at LPCA in Lake Placid on Tuesdays through Fridays from 1-5pm or at The Arts Council for the Northern Adirondacks at the Westport Heritage House in Westport. Please call (518) 962-8778 before March 5 to make arrangements to drop off work in Westport.

 
Adirondacks

The Lake Placid Institute announces a call for entries for the 2010 Great Adirondack Young People’s Poetry contest, open to grades 1-12 in the Adirondack region. The deadline for entries is February 28. Students and parents should contact their schools for information about entering the contest.
