Mount
Pisgah will play host to a special event Sunday during the annual
White Stag Race and Winter Carnival Arctic Barbeque.
At 1
p.m., community members will gather at the base of Mt. Pisgah to
wish good luck to four Winter Olympians who grew up in the Saranac
Lake Central School District.
Nordic combined champion Bill Demong, number-one world ranked
biathlete Tim Burke, luger Chris Mazder and ski jumper Peter
Frenette are all headed to Vancouver in a matter of days. In honor
of their athletic excellence, Saranac Lakers will cheer them on in a
video to be posted on YouTube.
Local
photographer Mark Kurtz will photograph the gathering from a bucket
truck.
There’s no fee to attend the rally, and residents are encouraged to
bring signs, banners and flags to the event. The local vets’ club
will be on hand to provide flags as well.
The
Friends of Mt. Pisgah and the Winter Carnival Committee will provide
an opportunity for folks to record messages for the athletes.
But
don’t limit yourself to the Olympic rally – the annual White Stag
Race kicks off at 10 a.m. and later in the day, Mt. Pisgah will host
its first-ever big air freestyle exhibition.
