The
Franklin County Department of Emergency Services will handle
dispatching responsibilities for the Tupper Lake Village Police
Department on weekends starting today.
As
part of a pilot project, the Franklin County 9-1-1 center in Malone
will handle calls for the department. That lets additional drivers
out on patrol.
The
Press Republican reports that an officer from the police department
will be in Malone for the first two weekends of the pilot.
Officials will monitor the program in the coming months and relay
successes and failures to legislators. If successful, the Saranac
Lake and Malone police departments may adopt a similar program.
Fire
and rescue services in Tupper Lake are already handled by Franklin
County 9-1-1.
