A
retired New York state prison guard has been arraigned on
second-degree murder charges in the fatal shootings of his
ex-girlfriend and the man she was dating.
Anthony Pavone wept, tried to plead
guilty and said he didn’t want a lawyer during a court appearance
Friday afternoon in Clinton County Court in Plattsburgh. He was
jailed without bail and has another court date today.
The 52-year-old Morrisonville resident
surrendered around 4 a.m. Friday after dozens of law enforcement
officers surrounded the Binghamton-area motel where he was staying.
Pavone was wanted for last weekend’s
killings of 52-year-old Timothy Carter and 43-year-old Patricia
Howard at Carter’s home in Dannemora, 140 miles north of Albany.
