The Seaway Valley Capital
Corporation appointed a new chief operating officer for the
struggling North Country retail chain Hackett’s.
In a statement released Monday,
Hackett’s Stores, Inc. named Herbert Becker as the new vice
president and chief operating officer of Patrick Hackett Hardware
Company. Becker will be in charge of streamlining operations and
production diversification.
Becker is a retail veteran with
extensive background in Internet marketing. For 30 years, he’s
overseen retail supply chain management at a variety of
corporations, and has 20 years experience as a senior executive.
Becker says Hacketts is at a –
quote – “inflection point.”
“The company has a chance to
ultimately define and optimize its image, operations and business
model in a way that maximizes profits in today’s dynamic retail
environment,” he said.
The Hacketts brand still has value,
Becker adds.
“My focus will be to position
Hacketts in the marketplace to maximize its value,” he said. “I also
believe in the staff at Hacketts and together I truly believe we are
going to make a change.”
Becker joins Hacketts after the
closure of stores in Massena, Watertown and Pulaski
earlier this year. Stores in Gouverneur and
Canton are also scheduled to close this summer.
Hacketts in Tupper Lake has been
spared, and the company has said plans are still in the works to
open a location in Lake Placid at Cold Brook Plaza.
