Parade for local Olympians slated for Friday in Saranac Lake

 

            A number of local organizations have teamed up to host a parade in honor of the Tri-Lakes area’s numerous Olympians who competed at the Vancouver Winter games in February.

            The parade is being organized by the village of Saranac Lake, the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, the Women’s Civic Chamber and the Olympic Regional Development Authority. The event kicks-off tomorrow at 4 p.m. in downtown Saranac Lake, with the parade starting at the corner of Olive Street and Broadway and making its way to the Harrietstown Town Hall on Main Street.

            Kelly Morgan of the Women’s Civic Chamber told WNBZ the parade was rescheduled to include as many local athletes as possible.

            So far, according to the latest release from ORDA, the following athletes are confirmed to be in attendance: Lake Placid biathlete Lowell Bailey; Paul Smiths’ biathlete Tim Burke; Lake Placid freestyle aerialist Ashley Caldwell; Vermontville Nordic combined athlete Bill Demong; Saranac Lake ski jumper Peter Frenette; Lake Placid luge athlete Mark Grimmette; Lake Placid biathlete Haley Johnson; Saranac Lake luge athlete Chris Mazdzer; and Saranac Lake luge athlete Emily Sweeney.

            Athletes will be available for autographs and photo-ops starting at 3:15 p.m. in the Olive Street area. Additional opportunities will be available at the town hall following the parade.
