Sorry guys. Tis fast becoming a woman's world. This is not a temporary situation, not an aberration. It is not going to go away. Women outnumber men in this country. By several million. And, I believe, the imbalance is growing. If they did not have the vote, this would not be a problem for men. For men, that is, who want the country and the world to be run by men. But, of course, they do have the vote. They also vote more often than men do. This strengthens their already strong position. It strengthens their position in the eyes of politicians. Once upon a time politicians took the women's vote for granted. (Once upon an earlier time, they never considered it. Since it did not exist.) Later, politicians saw that vote growing in importance. But they also felt it was predictable. They felt women would pretty much vote as their husbands did. Today, smart politicians see the women's vote as the most important of all blocks. Although we do not have armies of women politicians, male pols know a women's issue when they see one. Smart ones do. This is one reason why the President and Democrats keep pushing gun control to the front of the stage. Yes, it is a liberal issue. Yes, there are many men who want to see more controls on guns. But far more women are concerned about this issue than men. Because fewer of them hunt and own weapons. And let's face it, guns 'n men have gone together more readily than guns 'n women since the first blunderbuss erupted. The President and some Democrats calculate that this issue is one they can use to pull in a lot of women's votes. Especially when they talk about innocent children blown to eternity. The NRA says the Pres is playing politics with the gun issue, using murdered kiddies for leverage. He probably is. But he know this is a women's issue and he wants women's votes for Al and Hill. If you run down a list of issues the President has brought to our attention you will see many ''women's issues'' among them. Healthcare and childcare for instance. If you do the same with the lists of governors like George Pataki, you will see the same. Advisors everywhere constantly remind their politicians that they must address women's concerns or perish at the polls. Obviously, a lot of issues are neutral. But politicians check the polls to learn how women feel about them. Publishers listen to women. Because they buy more books than men. They buy more magazines. Car designers listen to women because they are buying an increasing number of cars. Everywhere in the market place, sellers are listening to women. Because women gain more buying power year by year. Those irons and hairdryers you find in hotel rooms these days? Do you really think the hotels put them there for the guys? Men have lost a lot of the clout they once wielded in the market. In the market for goods and services. In the market for votes. How much further will we travel down this road? A long way, is my guess. In our free market, money talks. Women keep gaining control over money, over spending and investing. Their pay is catching up to that of men. Since they outnumber men, the day will likely come when they spend more than men. They will dominate most consumer markets. In our republic, votes talk. Women outnumber and outvote men. They grow less dependent on men for financial support. They will be less swayed by them politically. If you consider this bad news, guys, don't shoot the messenger. And don't expect things to move back in your direction either. From Tom...as in Morgan.
