WILMINGTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY TO PRESENT “Adirondack Tales of Folk & Fancy” — October 26
WILMINGTON – The Wilmington Historical Society will present the program “Adirondack Tales of Folk and Fancy” for listeners of all ages with storyteller Karen Glass, to be held on Friday, October 26that 7 pm at the Wilmington Community Center. Karen Glass’s storytelling will concentrate on Adirondack hiking tales including “Esther Mountain”, “The Troll at Bear Pond”, and “Climbing Mt. Marcy”. Children, as well as adults, are encouraged to attend. The program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided by the Country Bear Bakery in Wilmington. Karen Peters, President of the Wilmington Historical Society explains, “For our final 2012 program, we are fortunate to have Karen Glass, a local, popular teller of Adirondack tales. The telling of folk tales can show us another window into our history, tapping into a traditional and fun way to tell stories about an area and an era. For this exceptional program, we would like to invite children of all ages to attend, as well as adults.” Karen Glass’s storytelling will concentrate on Adirondack hiking tales including “Esther Mountain”, “The Troll at Bear Pond”, and “Climbing Mt. Marcy”.
Karen Glass is a teacher, grandmother, quilter, paddler….and storyteller. She has been telling stories for more than 50 years, professionally for more than 15 years. Before becoming the director of the Keene Valley Library, she taught special education for 22 years. She now teaches storytelling and listening skills to students, teachers, and college resident advisors. She is a charter member of the Adirondack Storytellers Guild, a member of LANES, the League for the Advancement of New England Storytelling, and was the organizer of the Tell Me a Story Festival in Jay, NY. She facilitates retreats for Creative Healing Connections, an organization that uses the arts to provide a creative, healing environment for women with cancer or chronic disease and for veterans. Karen has published two CDS; Phoebe’s Garden and Other Stories of Strong Women and The Troll at Bear Pond and other Adirondack Hiking Tales.
