19th Annual Jingle Bell Snowshoe Race
Saturday, December 8th – 11 AM
With the current snow conditions, it appears that we will again have snow at the Paul Smith’s College VIC for the 19th Annual Jingle Bell Snowshoe Race to be held at 11 AM on Saturday, December 8th. The current snow cover ranges from 5” to 9” at the VIC on the trails.
Race registration will begin at 9:30 PM at the Paul Smith’s College VIC Lobby. The Jingle Bell Snowshoe Race is the first United States Snowshoe Nationals qualifier of the winter season; and we expect a large field of competitors to come from across the East. Juniors age 19 and under will be competing in the 5K, while those who wish to qualify for nationals who are age 20 and up will be running the 10K. Athletes of any age can run the 5K, but those over age 19 will not be qualifying to race at Nationals to be held next March in Bend, Oregon.
Race Course: This race is the thirteenth season that the Jingle Bell Snowshoe Race will be held at the Paul Smith’s College VIC. The Paul Smith’s College Striders have been fortunate to be able to utilize the wonderful trail system when the facility was operated by the Adirondack Park Visitor’s Interpretive staff for much of that time, and more recently since the facility has been operated as part of the college. The course will start and finish from the VIC building, and traverse the woodland trails, with the 10K being two 5K loops.
Junior Classes: The Jingle Bell Snowshoe Race will also feature an .8 mile cross country snowshoe race for children 14 and under. They may choose to run the 5K distance if they desire. This enables the younger runners & walkers an opportunity to try snowshoeing at the Jingle Bell. There will be classes and prizes for the junior runners as well.
Age Classes & Prizes: The Jingle Bell Snowshoe Race has six age group classes, so nearly everyone should be eligible for post race prizes. Age group prizes will be awarded to the top three in seven age classes. For entry forms and further information, call Jim Tucker at (518) 651-7123 or contact via e-mail at: jtucker@paulsmiths.edu
