No Border Fees Amendment Gets Unanimous Approval in Committee
The House Appropriations Committee today unanimously passed an amendment introduced by Congressman Bill Owens that would halt the proposed study of a “border fee.” Owens introduced the amendment as part of the mark-up for the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Bill.

Saranac Lake Free Library – Lunch Lecture Series
Dr. Jean Ouédraogo, Chair of the Foreign Language and Literature Faculty at SUNY, Plattsburgh, will present the “The Nation of Burkina Faso; African growth through Education,” at noon on Thursday, November 29, in the Cantwell Community Room at the Saranac Lake Free Library. Dr. Ouédraogo graduated from the Universite de Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso and in 1997, earned a Ph.D. in Romance Languages at The University of Georgia, Athens.
He teaches courses at all levels of the French curriculum including African and Caribbean Francophone literature and culture. With research interests encompassing African Cinema, literary criticism and translation, he is currently writing on Ahmadou Kourouma and planning a critical anthology of the literature of Burkina Faso. He has published numerous books and articles and been recognized with a number of awards and distinctions for excellence in scholarship, research and literature.
He will talk about conditions in the African country of Burkina Faso, a small, primarily agricultural nation in western Africa which faces both literacy and health challenges. Dr. Ouédraogo will discuss the cultural changes that are taking place.
