The Town of North Elba Puts the Brakes on any new investment towards the Recreational Trail on the rail corridor.
Our Series on Re-Building the Rail Corridor continues today with a decision handed down by the Town of North Elba Board Tuesday evening to delay any further investment into construction of a recreational trail Between Lake Placid and Saranac Lake.. North Elba Supervisor Robi Politi says there are two things that have happened – One is the opening of the Unit Management Plan for discussion and Two is an email from Chuck Damp who has been spearheading the efforts to build the trail. The email explains that another federal permit will be required for coverage of wetlands. At this point it appears likely that North Elba will lose the funds set aside for their recreational trail project and once the UMP discussions are complete, will need to consider re-applying for funding to move forward based on the new Unit Management Plan for the Corridor..
About a year ago, a committee tasked with proposing changes and updates to the village building codes found their document almost entirely incorporated into those codes.. A joint meeting Tuesday Night with both the Lake Placid Village Board and the Town of North Elba netted motions for an update to that document which includes adjustments and modifications to that code..
