Advance Directives Seminar @ Will Rogers
Dec 5 @ 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm

Advanced Directives Seminar

Adirondack Medical Center’s Director of Pastoral Care, Steve Kovacevich, will present a Seminar on Advanced Directives at Saranac Village at Will Rogers, on Wednesday, December 5th, from 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m., as part of Saranac Village at Will Rogers’ Road to Retirement Series. The Road to Retirement Series, which began in September, features programs related to the challenges of retiring, solutions for organizing, and information on Veterans’ affairs, and will run through December and then begin again in February.

Advanced health care planning, or Advanced Directives as it is more commonly known, can consist of both oral and written orders intended to address a person’s health care wishes if he or she is unable to speak for themself. Anyone who is 18 years of age or older, or has a chronic disease, should be aware of the need for Advanced Directives. Likewise, it is important to take into consideration the need to plan ahead and inform those closest to you about your wishes for end-of-life decisions before the time comes. There are different forms of Advanced Directives, as well as many situations presenting their own set of individual questions.

This program is free for those 55 and older, open to the public and a special discount will be offered to new residents who attend the program and move in within 30 days of this program. Refreshments will be served. For information, please contact Director of Admissions, Jenn Grisi at (518) 891-7117.

Village Welcomes Active Motiff with Reception and Ribbon Cutting
Dec 5 @ 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm

Village Set to Welcome New Biotech Company

Saranac Lake will officially welcome its newest corporate citizen and biotech company, Active Motif, at 6 pm, December 4th, with a reception and ribbon-cutting event which will be held at its 21 Main Street location.

This new Active Motif site is in the former “water building” and is leased from the village after having undergone extensive renovations over the last 6 months.

Active Motif follows nearby biotech, Myriad/RBM, which opened last June, into Saranac Lake’s new “Biotech-Cluster,” which is also comprised of nearby Trudeau Institute and Bionique.

Mayor Clyde Rabideau commented, “This emerging industry offers good-paying, sustainable jobs to our Adirondack region as well as a large and positive presence in our downtown.”

The Village of Saranac Lake was recognized earlier this year by the New York Conference of Mayors for developing its biotech-cluster and garnered the first place Local government Achievement Award for Economic Development.

Rabideau said, “We’re now poised to go after other biotechs and bring them into our Saranac Lake community in the years to come.”

The public is invited and encouraged to attend the welcoming event—at no charge—by making reservations with the village Community Development office, at 891-4150.

The cost for the reception is entirely underwritten by Bernier and Carr, the renovation project engineering company, Integrated Rigging and Contracting, the project’s general contractor and Murray Electric, the project’s electrical contractor.

LPCA’s 26th Annual “Joy to the Children”
Dec 6 @ 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

The Lake Placid Center for the Arts invites everyone to usher in the holidays and celebrate the season of giving at the 26th Annual Joy to the Children Benefit.  This gala event co-chaired by Erin Perkins and Sharon Wood will be held at the Mirror Lake Inn on Thursday, December 6 from 6-9pm.  Tickets are specially priced at $100 per person if reserved and paid for by December 3. After December 3, patron tickets can be reserved for $130 per person.  Call the LPCA at 523-2512 for reservations or more information. This year, tickets can also be purchased online at www.LakePlacidArts.org/Joy and previews of auction items can be viewed on the Lake Placid Center for the Arts facebook event page.

Lisa and Ed Weibrecht and the staff of The Mirror Lake Inn Resort and Spa will host this special event for the 26th consecutive year.  As in past years, their gracious donation of the Inn makes this long-standing holiday tradition one of the outstanding events of the season. The Inn, decorated for the holidays and overflowing with goodies, will delight guests as they revel in the evening’s festivities while raising money for children’s arts programming.

** 2012 marks a special event – Joy to the Children began as a small party to raise much-needed funds for children’s arts programs. Started by Lisa Weibrecht & Nadine Duhaime, this now annual tradition has touched thousands of lives. Join the LPCA as they thank LPCA Executive Director, Nadine Duhaime, for her 26 years of commitment to the children of the Adirondacks and bid her a fond farewell and happy retirement.

Guests will enjoy festive finger foods, cocktails, and the chance to mingle with other holiday revelers.  Patrons will be able to purchase specialty goodie baskets and truly special gifts.  New this year, join Santa as he Goes Green with special re-purposed presents. The annual Gingerbread House Auction will delight interested bidders with a variety of specially crafted homes to select from. This year’s Benefit Raffle will be a 50/50 and tickets will continue to be sold throughout the evening. Included in the extensive list of silent auction items patrons will find fabulous trips, art work, fine jewelry, hand-painted furniture and clothing.   The children will be represented well with an assortment of books, stuffed animals, computer games and more.  The LPCA will be accepting donations for the silent auction through December 3.  Any individual or business interested in donating an item to the auction should contact the LPCA office.

This annual benefit raises funds to help support over 100 free children’s workshops and some 100 individual programs reaching over 35,000 individuals throughout our region.   Funds from the benefit help to support several programs including: The Weibrecht ~ For Schools Only Series, which allows schools to bring their students to top quality performances in theatre, music and dance for a minimal cost; The free Young and Fun Arts Series, offered throughout the summer season on Wednesday mornings featuring a wide variety of kids entertainment; The High Peaks Art Shows which highlight student artwork in a series of age specific exhibitions; Arts Career Day allowing perspective art students to visit with college representatives and have their portfolios reviewed; over 80 Free Afterschool Workshops offered in a variety of mediums at two different times throughout the year; Missoula Children’s Theatre and CAMP LPCA summer programs, and the popular LPCA Children’s Musical Theatre program offered every fall for our aspiring actors. Also included in this list is a host of school and community arts programs designed to expose, enrich and excite young people with the arts. Students and schools from a multi-county region are able to participate in an impressive number of activities. It is only through the annual Joy Gala, that the LPCA has been able to offer a unique arts-in-education outreach program for the region.

The LPCA invites everyone to join us for this holiday party.  If you are not on our benefit mailing list, and would like to receive an invitation, please contact the Arts Center at 518-523-2512 or email us at info@LakePlacidArts.org.
