Fourth Adirondack Youth Climate Summit
November 14th & November 15th, 2012
New at the fourth Adirondack Youth Climate Summit!
More than 160 participants from 28 high schools and colleges across the Adirondacks and New York State will attend, ultimately effecting more than 25,000 students.
The Summit is the only one of its kind in the country and has already led to financial savings and shifts in mindsets across the Park. Students who participated last year returned to their schools implementing change – creating school gardens to provide food for their cafeterias, expanding recycling and composting programs, replacing power strips with energy smart strips, examining energy saving opportunities by conducting carbon audits for their schools and presenting to school boards about their activities and financial savings.
The full agenda for the event can be found on the website www.adkyouthsummit.org. A list of attending schools can be found here.
If you plan to attend for all or part of the Summit, please let me know:

Advanced health care planning, or Advanced Directives as it is more commonly known, can consist of both oral and written orders intended to address a person’s health care wishes if he or she is unable to speak for themself. Anyone who is 18 years of age or older, or has a chronic disease, should be aware of the need for Advanced Directives. Likewise, it is important to take into consideration the need to plan ahead and inform those closest to you about your wishes for end-of-life decisions before the time comes. There are different forms of Advanced Directives, as well as many situations presenting their own set of individual questions.
This program is free for those 55 and older, open to the public and a special discount will be offered to new residents who attend the program and move in within 30 days of this program. LPI Book Club meeting
“Art Lover, A Biography of Peggy Guggenheim,” by Anton Gill is this month’s choice of the Lake Placid Institute Book Club, which will meet at the Lake Placid Library at 7 p.m., Monday, January 28. Ms. Guggenhiem, was left a small fortune at a young age after her father went down on the Titanic. She soon relocated to Europe, moving about with the American expat group of bohemian writers and artists of the day. She has been dubbed by some as the “mistress of modern art” but was equally well known for her colorful and scandalous life style.
The LPI Book Club usually meets 7 p.m. on the last Monday of the month to discuss books about arts and architecture. All are invited to join in the discussion or to come just listen.
