North Elba Expects to Exceed 1.66% Tax Cap

The Town of North Elba may be headed for a budget showdown with Governor Cuomo’s Tax Cap initiative… At their meeting in November the board plans to get ahead of the curve and prepare for an eventuality that may require the budget to exceed the state’s requirement.. North Elba Supervisor Robi Politi says it’s going to be very difficult for the Town of North Elba to meet the tax cap of 1.66% for 2014….

The Lake Placid Wilmington Connecting Youth and Communities Coalition has more money to focus on planning and programming today. That’s because Organizers of the Lake Placid Half Marathon have donated $7,500 to the CYC organization as part of a fundraising effort and a volunteerism drive during the Half Marathon. Half Marathon Organizer Rick Preston presented CYC President Mary Deitrich with the check at the Village Board meeting on Monday evening. Mary says the funds will mostly go to volunteer organizations that worked to provide water stations on location during the Half Marathon.

1982 Residency Law Causing Problems for Village of Lake Placid

If your neighbor lives two hundred feet away from you but lives outside of the village line.. Should that disqualify your neighbor from being employed by the village? That’s the focus of a 1982 law drafted by the Village Board in Lake Placid which Mayor Randall says specifically restricts the ability of the village to do business.. The Mayor says Trustee Scott Monroe was able to put together a proposal that would attempt to address the problems that the village faces including a local law that might allow for some leeway in the old law.

As it turns out, roughly 65% of village employees which have been hired since 1982 are not residents of the village.. Village Attorney Janet Bliss says the simplest solution would be to create a local law repealing the 1982 law, mostly …..
