The Justice Department filed a lawsuit Thursday to block California’s newly-approved congressional map. Voters overwhelmingly approved Proposition 50, which shifts district lines to favor Democrats in five Republican-held seats, in a direct response to a similar measure that passed in Texas favoring Republicans. Sen. John Fetterman is under routine observation at a Pittsburgh hospital after falling during an early morning walk Thursday near his Braddock, Pennsylvania, home. A statement said the Pennsylvania Democrat experienced a “ventricular fibrillation flare-up” that caused light-headedness, leading him to fall and suffer minor facial injuries. (Story URL)


The Rev. Jesse Jackson has been hospitalized in Chicago for a neurodegenerative condition, his organization, the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, announced on Wednesday. The group said Jackson, 84, was admitted for observation related to progressive supranuclear palsy, or PSP. According to the statement, Jackson has managed the illness for more than ten years. Less than half of U.S. households now consider religion important, a 17% drop over the past decade, according to a new Gallup poll. In 2015, two-thirds of adults said religion played a key role in their daily lives. That figure fell to 49% in 2025, the largest decline recorded by any nation since 2007. The U.S. decline is sharper than most, though Greece, Italy, and Poland saw larger drops in recent years. (Story URL)


The Internal Revenue Service announced higher contribution limits for retirement accounts in 2026. Workers may contribute up to $24,500 to 401(k) plans, an increase of $1,000, and up to $7,500 to IRAs, a $500 rise. For people age 50 and older, the 401(k) catch-up limit will rise to $8,000, up $500. Those ages 60 to 63 can add another $11,250, unchanged from 2025. (Story URL)
