86 Year Old Swimmer Drowns in Lake Champlain

An 86 year old man died in an apparent drowning last week in Lake Champlain at North Hero. The Grand Isle County Sheriff’s Department says a deputy found the overdue swimmer unresponsive in the water and brought him to shore. Resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful. Authorities say the death is not considered suspicious.
Clinton County Fair Draws Large Crowds

The 78th Clinton County Fair drew heavy crowds to Morrisonville with livestock judging, midway rides, tractor pulls and live entertainment. Four-H members competed with swine and other farm animals while displaying projects inside the fairgrounds. Organizers say the six-day event typically attracts more than 30,000 visitors and expected attendance to exceed that total this year.
Plattsburgh Child Care Center Could Add 150 Slots

A proposed child care center in Plattsburgh’s Air Industrial Park could create about 150 new slots. TDC plans to build the roughly 10,000-square-foot facility and lease it to a licensed operator. Jay Day Returns With Food, Music and Family Activities

The annual Jay Day Celebration returns August 15 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on the Jay Village Green. The event will feature more than 40 vendors, food, craft beer, live music, face painting and free children’s activities. A pie baking contest, games, crafts and entertainment will also be offered throughout the day.
Red Cross Assists Lake Placid Fire Victim

The American Red Cross provided emergency assistance to one adult after a Friday afternoon fire on Greenwood Street in Lake Placid. The aid included money for shelter, food and clothing, along with emotional support, personal care items and health services. Red Cross volunteers will remain available as the resident begins recovery.
