New York Ranked Last for Housing Affordability

A new national study by Realtor.com ranks New York State last in the nation for housing affordability and homebuilding. The 2026 report gave New York an “F” grade and placed it 51st, including Washington, D.C. Researchers cited high housing costs and limited construction activity as key factors behind the state’s lowest-in-the-country ranking.
