Judi Dench Defends Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey Amid Ongoing Legal Cases

Monday, December 8, 2025 at 7:01 PM

Judi Dench believes Harvey Weinstein has served sufficient prison time for his sexual assault convictions. "I knew Harvey, and I knew him well and worked with him, and I had none of that experience – very fortunately for me," Dench told Radio Times Sunday. "I imagine he's done his time … I don't know, to me it's personal – forgiveness." Weinstein is currently serving a 16-year sentence after his 2022 Los Angeles conviction. In June, he was convicted of first-degree sexual assault in his New York retrial involving former Project Runway assistant Miriam Haley from 2006. Regarding Kevin Spacey, who faces civil lawsuits despite criminal charge clearances, Dench said: "Kevin has been exonerated and I hear from Kevin, we text." She questioned whether audiences should dismiss Spacey and Weinstein's work, comparing the situation to viewing Caravaggio paintings despite the artist being a murderer. (Story URL)
