Lucas Museum Of Narrative Art To Open In September After Construction Delays

Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at 7:01 PM

George Lucas's museum will finally open September 22nd, 2026, following construction delays since breaking ground in March 2018, including COVID-19 pandemic setbacks. The 11-acre Los Angeles Exposition Park campus features a 300,000-square-foot building designed by Ma Yansong. The facility includes galleries, two theaters, a library, restaurant, café, retail store, and community areas. Lucas described the institution as "a temple to the people's art" during his first San Diego Comic-Con appearance in July. The museum will house Lucas's 40,000-piece collection, featuring works by Norman Rockwell, Frida Kahlo, Jack Kirby, and other notable artists. Lucas emphasized emotional connection over celebrity or cost, stating "If you have emotional connection, it's art. If you don't, just move on to the next painting." The Lucas Archives will contain props, models, and costumes from his films. (Story URL)
