American adults demonstrate better civics knowledge this year, with 70% correctly naming all three government branches compared to 65% in 2024, according to the Annenberg Constitution Day Civics Survey. Nearly four in five respondents (79%) identified freedom of speech as a First Amendment right, up from 74% last year. "People can't cherish, safeguard, or exercise their constitutionally protected rights unless they know that they have them," said Kathleen Hall Jamieson, director of the Annenberg Public Policy Center. However, Supreme Court trust continues declining, with only 41% expressing moderate trust in the institution, down from 44% ten months earlier.
