CBD Supplements Reduce Dog Aggression Over Time, Study Shows

A veterinary study published Friday in Frontiers of Veterinary Science found that dogs given hemp-derived cannabidiol supplements over several years showed reduced aggression levels. Researchers analyzed data from 47,355 dogs between 2019 and 2023. Dogs receiving CBD supplements displayed below-average aggression compared to those without CBD use. "This could point to a direct effect," the authors wrote. However, related behaviors like anxiety showed no similar correlation. Study co-author Dr. Julie Albright from the University of Tennessee said "it is not entirely clear why only aggression and not other types of anxious or agitated behaviors seemed to be improved with CBD treatment." The research also revealed higher CBD use in states with progressive cannabis laws, suggesting owners transfer their CBD values to pets. The pet CBD market is expected to reach $1.7 billion by 2030.
