Maryland residents face the nation's steepest utility costs with median monthly bills reaching $546, according to a new analysis. The figure covers electricity, gas, water, waste, and recycling services, far exceeding the national median of $347. Connecticut follows at $488 monthly, then Massachusetts at $481, Washington at $466, and Hawaii at $447. Alaska, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Maine, and Vermont round out the top ten most expensive states. South Dakota offers the most affordable utility costs at $280 monthly, followed by Arkansas and New Mexico both at $288, West Virginia at $295, and Mississippi at $296.
