Nearly One-Third Of Americans Expect Holiday Debt This Season

Thursday, November 20, 2025 at 7:01 PM

Thirty-one percent of Americans anticipate going into debt during this holiday season, according to a Talker Research survey of 2,000 winter holiday celebrants. The study reveals widespread financial strain as 65% say determining safe spending levels feels nearly impossible. Only 51% created holiday budgets, with 64% of those already overspending or expecting to exceed limits. Americans are cutting restaurant visits (25%), reducing savings contributions (21%), and limiting grocery purchases (19%) to fund holiday expenses. Fifty-two percent admit to "guilt-giving" this year, spending over $250 on obligation gifts rather than genuine choices. (Story URL)
