Social Media Fuels Travel Inadequacy Among Young Americans

Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at 8:00 PM

Nearly 70% of Americans experience "travel dysmorphia," feeling they haven't explored enough of the world compared to others, according to a new survey. Social media drives these feelings, with 47% of Gen Z citing influencer content as a contributing factor. More than half of Gen Z respondents say social media makes them feel "behind" in life. Only 48% of Americans feel satisfied with their lifetime travel experiences, while 63% cite cost as the primary barrier. Despite challenges, Americans remain ambitious travelers, hoping to visit an average of 22 countries. Top destinations include Japan and Paris, each attracting 24% of respondents. (Story URL)
