Nearly three in ten American adults remain afraid of the dark, with horror movies worsening sleep quality. Talker Research surveyed 2,000 Americans, finding 29% admit to darkness fears. Men show slightly higher rates at 33% versus women at 26%. A quarter use nightlights while sleeping, and 10% keep lights on completely. Men are twice as likely to sleep with lights on at 15% compared to 7% of women. After watching scary films, 28% wake up more frequently at night, 22% experience poorer sleep quality, and 12% sleep fewer hours.
