A revised plan to better manage the Adirondack brook trout population is ready for public comment.
The brook trout is the state fish of New York and an iconic symbol of the Adirondacks. Once ubiquitous in Northern NY, up to 90% of the brook trout habitat has been lost due to various factors the Department of Environmental Conservation reports. So, a draft revision of the "Adirondack Brook Trout Pond Management Plan" has been released and is available for public comment. Comments will be accepted through June 13th on the DEC website. Implementation of the new plan is expected by early summer following a review of comments.
