Assemblyman Michael Cashman has offered his views on the All-Electric Buildings Act suspension.
Last week we learned that state officials have suspended implementation of the All-Electric Buildings Act that was scheduled to take effect January first. If enacted it would ban the use of gas or other fossil fuel equipment in new homes and buildings of 7 stories or less. Assemblyman Michael Cashman weighed in on the suspension by noting that these one-size-fits-all statewide mandates are unrealistic. Cashman said, “the pause is necessary, but it is only a temporary fix.” He added that “Albany must recognize rural NY is different. Affordability, reliability, and safety must come before mandates”. Assemblyman Cashman suggested the North Country needs carve outs for this act and a balanced, practical approach.
