Fewer Canadian visitors hasn't resulted in lower North Country sales tax collection in first half of year.
Local Sales Tax Collections in Clinton, Essex and Franklin counties saw a healthy increase during the first half of the year according to a report from the state. The report, released by Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, shows that statewide Year-over-year growth during the first half of 2025 almost doubled compared to the same period last year. Locally, Clinton County was up 4.9%, Essex County saw a 4.3% increase and Franklin County recorded a whopping 8% increase over 2024. Comptroller DiNapoli said the state’s average growth rate was like the rate seen during the recovery and expansion following the Great Recession.
