Storage facilities across NY State house millions of dollars of never used medical equipment.
State comptroller Thomas DiNapoli said emergency procurement orders were given by the Cuomo administration to buy tons of medical equipment at the onset of the pandemic. The audit showed the administration paid a consultant to project the quantity of equipment needed. DiNapoli noted that the procurement process used was inconsistent with Office of General Services guidance. Auditors also found a lack of inventory controls contributed to not being able to account for all the equipment purchased. The comptroller said hundreds of millions of dollars were spent on equipment that was never used and now sits idle in storage units.
