Assembly Minority Leader, Will Barclay, has decided to step down and not seek re-election in September.
Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay has decided to step down from the leadership role and not seek re-election. Barclay said, “after a great deal of reflection, I’ve decided to step down as Minority Leader in the coming days to allow for a smooth transition” and, he said, he will not seek re-election to the 120th Assembly District in September. North Country Assemblyman, Matt Simpson, said he’ll be missed. Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie said Barclay has been a good friend and partner in government. The Speaker said, “even when we disagreed on policy, I knew we could always work together with respect and collegiality.”
