The Battle of Plattsburgh pushed back the largest invasion of the U.S. by a foreign power in history. Thousands of British troops were stopped in Plattsburgh on this date in 1814. There are three memorials scheduled today to commemorate the Battle of Plattsburgh. The first is at the battlefield Gateway Memorial Park that starts at 11am, then at 1:30 at Fort Brown off Route 9 in Plattsburgh and finally at 5pm a memorial service will be held at Riverside Cemetery.
