A blue Heron, the largest of the north American herons, was apparently fired on at an area campsite.
The report of someone taking a shot at a blue heron at Ausable Point Campground in Peru was called into an off-duty Environmental Conservation Police Officer. According to ENCON the ensuing investigation resulted in a 33-year-old from Hudson Falls being issued tickets for disorderly conduct, disturbing wildlife, and possessing and discharging a firearm in a campground. The heron, was not found. DEC’s Division of Law Enforcement will work with the Division of Forest Protection in the ongoing investigation.
