A book lost due to Nazi persecution has been returned by the State Holocaust Claims Office.
The books return is the result of close cooperation between the Department of Financial Services Holocaust Claims Processing Office and the French Government. It was part of a collection belonging to Dr. August Liebmann Mayer who was taken to Auschwitz where he was murdered. The book, about a famous painter, was returned to the daughter of Dr. Mayer, who is a renowned art historian. The NY State Holocaust Claims Office was created in 1997 to help Holocaust victims and their heirs recover lost assets.
