The shuttered state prison can't be sold without an amendment to the state constitution.
For the fifth consecutive year Senator Dan Stec’s legislation to facilitate the sale of Camp Gabriels, a closed state prison, has passed the Senate and awaits its first passage in the Assembly where Billy Jones has sponsored a bill for several years as well. Senate bill S548, sponsored by Senator Stec, calls for a constitutional amendment that enables the property to be sold or leased. Because it’s an amendment to the state constitution, it must pass both houses this year, and again during a new Legislative Session before it can be eligible for a statewide vote.
