Assemblyman Billy Jones is leaving politics and Town Supervisor Michael Cashman wants his job.
Town of Plattsburgh Supervisor, Michael Cashman, said he wants to be the Democrat candidate in the upcoming 115th Assembly District Special Election following the unexpected departure of Billy Jones effective at the end of the month. In announcing his interest Cashman said, “After thoughtful consideration, I’m stepping forward to continue a tradition of people-first public service.” Like Jones, Cashman has a track record of working with everyone. He said, “I’ve worked with leaders from both parties standing shoulder-to-shoulder when the moment called for it, and pushing back when necessary.” Supervisor Cashman said nothing can officially happen until Assemblyman Jones leaves his position. At that time, party leaders in the tri-county area will meet and choose a candidate. It’s likely the special election for the North Country Assembly seat will take place on election day in November.
