A weekend fire in Champlain required departments from NY, VT and Quebec to battle the blaze.
Champlain Fire District Commissioner, Chris Trombly, said upon arrival Saturday morning Champlain Fire Department encountered a large two-story structure with heavy fire involvement. Additional resources were immediately dispatched from the North Country, Vermont and Quebec. Clinton County Cars 1, 4, 7 and county fire investigators also responded. The cause of the fire is under investigation. On scene were Champlain, Rouses Point, Mooers, Chazy, West Chazy, Beekmantown, Alburgh, VT and St Bernard and Hemingford from Quebec. Altona was on standby at Champlain and Swanton was on standby for Rouses point. The Northeastern New York Chapter of the American Red Cross provided immediate emergency aid to residents of the Champlain fire on Hayford Road. Two adults received financial assistance from Red Cross which can be used for necessities such as shelter, food, and clothing.
