A bill has been signed into law that allows hunters to use a crossbow where bow hunting is allowed in NY.
According to the DEC the bill revises New York's longbow definition to include crossbows. To legally hunt deer and bear with a crossbow, a hunter must have a hunting license with a bowhunting privilege. To be eligible to purchase the privilege certification, a hunter must be a certified bowhunter. Certification is available through approved online or in-person courses.
