The Division of Consumer Protection has issued an alert regarding "Cyber Monday" online scams.
Last year, New York consumers reported over $17 million in losses from online shopping scams and over $41 million in losses relating to business imposters, according to data collected by the Federal Trade Commission. In addition, counterfeit products are becoming more common online, and these products may pose safety hazards. According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, in fiscal 2025, they seized nearly 79 million counterfeit items. Clothing, consumer electronics and toys were among the top items seized.
