A group of 50 were picked from a list of 10,000 for NY State Forest Ranger and EOC Academy training.
New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is holding a six-month academy training for new recruits. The training academy will prepare up to 50 of DEC's newest Environmental Conservation Police Officers and Forest Rangers for careers protecting New York State's natural resources in the Divisions of Law Enforcement and Forest Protection. According to the DEC, ECOs were first appointed for service in 1880. The first Forest Rangers were put into service in 1885. The recruits in this newest class were selected from nearly 10,000 applicants from the most recent Civil Service exam given last November. As the new class gets underway, DEC continues a robust recruitment effort.
