Expect more police on the road in NY State through April 13th during Distracted Driving Awareness month
April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month and law enforcement agencies across the state have increased patrols. The bolstered police presence will continue through April 13th. During last year’s campaign over 67,000 tickets were issued for vehicle and traffic law violations. Distracted driving is the most common contributing factor in all crashes in NY. To help deter drivers from talking on a cell phone without a hands-free device, texting, or using an electronic device, the state has set strict penalties. The penalties can range from $50 to $450 in fines, five driver violation points, and suspension or revocation of a license.
