April is Donate Life Month and thousands of state residents are waiting for organ and tissue transplants.
There are over 8,000 New York state residents awaiting an organ transplant, according to Donate Life NY State. In 2024, more than 50% of eligible New Yorkers registered to become organ donors through the Donate Life Registry. It was the first time a majority had registered. That number is now 52.9 percent. New Yorkers can enroll directly through the DMV by completing the donation section on a driver’s license or non-driver ID.
