The NY State Department of Health has issued advisories for eating fish caught in North Country waters.
The Health Department says waters within the Adirondack region have been more affected by mercury than other parts of the state. Currently, as an example, the department suggests not eating yellow perch caught in Lake Champlain from Cumberland Head to the Peru Boat Launch site. The reason given is the increased levels of Mercury, PFAS and PCBs in fish. The Health Department recommends that people follow advice offered on their website regarding other fish and bodies of water in the area and statewide.
