Only about a third of an electric bill in NYS pays for electricity. The rest is fees, taxes and delivery costs.
The Independent Power Producers of New York reports that only about 30% of an electric bill in the state is the price of electricity supply. The other 70% is made up of state-mandated fees, taxes and delivery charges. In addition, a recently leaked NYSERDA memo reportedly suggests that future green energy charges will add more to electric bills as the state’s climate law is implemented.
